Family Christmas Photo Outfits – what to wear to make these portraits special!

And Where to Buy Them!

One of the biggest questions I get asked when it comes to Christmas photo sessions is what should we wear? Because of this, I have compiled a list of a few different options for family Christmas photo outfits. Truly, it depends on your own personal style and what you are looking for in the photo session. However, these recommendations are sure help to make your Christmas session special, regardless of which way you choose to go.

Don’t Be Afraid To Dress It Up! Fancy family Christmas photo outfits!

If fancy is more your style, feel free to break out the glitter and the glam for your Christmas session! In fact, Christmas can be a wonderful time of year to dress it up. Due to all the Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, the Christmas photo can give you another place to wear your holiday best! Some of the best places to find fancier clothes for Christmas include Simmons, Winners, or Fairweather.

There Is Something About Red Plaid That Just Says Christmas!

Red plaid seems to be a staple in Christmas photos. Surely, it is a classic piece in many fall and winter wardrobes and it finds its way into many Christmas photos. It is easy to find red plaid in several different clothing items. So, you should be able to find something for everyone in the classic red plaid. Some places to shop for red plaid include Winners and Old Navy.

Carry One or Two Complimenting Colors Through Everyone’s Outfits.

If everyone in red plaid is just too much for you, you can carry a few colors or themes through everyone’s outfits without being super matchy matchy. Once, I photographed a large extended family last Christmas and they carried red and black through everyone’s outfits and it looked awesome! Again, red plaid made its appearance, but so did solid red jackets, solid black jackets, black plaid sweaters, and black vests. Perhaps the best place to purchase coordinating outfits would be Old Navy, but Walmart will likely have something that coordinates across multiple age groups as well.

Matching Pajamas is Always a Hit! Simple family Christmas photo outfits!

Matching Christmas Pajamas have become quite the hit in the last decade. Because of this, entire stores are dedicated just to matching Christmas pajamas. Consequently, they have made their way into the Christmas photos as well! If you are the laid back family, this may just be the look for you! For example, they can be just cute, or humorous, depending on your personalities. They can be a load of fun. The best places to get these are The Lazy One (seasonal), Old Navy or Walmart. Alternatively, you can likely even order them online through Amazon.

Don’t Forget the Accessories!

Accessories can complete any look. Therefore, don’t forget to include bow ties for the little men or bows for the little one’s hair. If the session is outdoors, don’t forget hats, mittens and scarves! Also, plan on bringing a blanket to stay warm with during an outdoor session! Even a cute little head band can make an image that much cuter! For accessories, I recommend Ardene or Claires. You can even try Walmart.
