My Top 5 Reasons You Should Book an Extended Family Portrait Session This Fall in Edmonton

Fall is the perfect time of year to have book any portrait session here in Edmonton! Because of the amazing colours on the trees and the lack of mosquitoes to eat you alive! But is there a more perfect weekend than Thanksgiving long weekend to book that extended family portrait session? I don’t think so! Here are my top 5 reasons to book your extended family portrait session this Thanksgiving weekend (or any fall weekend truthfully).

1. Convenience!

One of the biggest reasons I hear for families to not book this session is it is too difficult to get the family together. Or they all live too far apart. But the Thanksgiving weekend can be the perfect time to get those portraits done!

If you are like my family, you are already gathering together for a delicious meal anyways. So, it becomes super convenient to have a portrait session done at the same time! Many out of town guests will come in for the meal. It is one of the few times of the year you are all gathered together. Savour more than just the meal this Thanksgiving. Savour the memories of everyone being together with taking the perfect extended family portrait.

2. Capture the milestones!

From the youngest cousin just learning to sit up to the teenage grandson with the teeth free from braces, capture the many different milestones the grandkids all transition through. The grandparents will love having these keepsakes to reflect upon during the years. They make great portraits to include in the wedding slideshow.

3. All in one session!

What better time to get the updated couples portrait (that you haven’t had done since your wedding)? Or the new family portrait than when you are already dressed up for the extended family session? Not only is the extended family session the time to capture all the special cousin and grandparent relationships, it is the perfect time for each family unit to update their family portraits as well! This provides the grandparents with one large family portrait for their wall and portraits of the individual family units.

4. Create mementos of memories

An extended family session is the perfect gift for any set of grandparents. The artwork that we create from your extended family session can increase the gifting to the grandparents as well! What grandparent wouldn’t love a wall gallery full of portraits of their loved ones? Printed artwork can also be passed on from generation to generation. There is no worrying about if the technology we use now to back up our images is going to be around in a generation. Remember, the CDs we used to store our images on 20 years ago? What a gift for the grandchildren when they become adults to inhereit the photographs of themselves as children with their grandparents.

5. Freeze this moment in time

Let’s face it, time continues to march on, no matter how much we try and slow it down. And with the progression of time, our extended families continually change as well. From the blessed gift of pregancy or adoption growing our amazing families, to the heartache of loss, it is true that our family may look different this time next year.

Because I have lost both of my parents before I reached the age of 41, I implore you to not wait for another year to capture your family as it is now, in this moment. You will be grateful you did, even if you decide to have another photo taken next year. You can never have too many images of your loved ones anyways!!

If you are anything like me, family is everything. This can be the family you were born into, the family you married into, or the family you get to choose for yourself. Don’t pass on the opportunity to capture yours this Thanksgiving.
