This family of three was the biggest treat to photograph – Whitemud Park Edmonton was the perfect backdrop, the matching mother and daughter outfits, the love they have for each other, and the reason behind the shoot all made for pure magic.
Silent Auction Donation Winners
I met this beautiful family through a silent auction I had donated a family session to last winter. The auction went to support the family of a little boy who had serious health problems very early in life. It was a very worthy cause.
This mama was part of the organizing team behind helping arrange the silent auction. She was the lucky bidder on the package! Because of the pandemic, we did wait patiently to find a safe pocket of time to get this session done.
Matching outfits for the win!
I was thrilled when I found out mom had bought matching outfits for herself and her daughter. As can be seen, they looked fantastic together and dad’s outfit coordinated so well. Even though they were all dressed up, the girls were up for skipping over some rocks and mud to get right down on to the river bank for some photos. They were such amazing sports about it!
We got to shoot in the forest, on bridges, and near the water. Truly, Whitemud Park Edmonton boasts some amazing spots for family photography.
A rare eye disorder and some dark glasses
I learned throughout this shoot about their daughter’s eyesight. At a very early age, she was diagnosed with a very rare eye disease. As a result, she has to wear tri-focal glasses. Consequently, her glasses are quite expensive. She has the one pair that have the transitional lenses that will darken when outside. We were shooting in the afternoon sun during a summer day. As a result, her glasses were dark through much of the session (dad’s were too, but his didn’t seem to get as dark as hers).
With this in mind, I did get a few photos of her with her glasses off. This way, I could take out the dark lenses of her glasses and let her beautiful eyes shine through.
A moving portrait delivery
I was beyond touched when I delivered the prints to mama. She adores the photos; in particular, the one with her husband and daughter. I knew it had been a few years since this family had a photo session and her reaction filled my heart with joy. Knowing I get to provide my clients with memories and love and emotion is the reason I do what I do. She really gave me a gift that day by seeing the pure joy on her face.
All in all, I can’t wait to see this family again, and make them some more memories.
